The Baptism of the LORD (GA)

John 1:32-34
32 And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. 33 I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”

There are some weeks when I read these texts and seem to just jump off the page as what to write. But there are other days when the text seems to explain everything and you feel like writing anymore is just over kill. Then there are just busy weeks when don't get to everything.

I have often wondered why John does not give us the Baptismal narrative. He tells about what John was told prior to the event and how John can recognize Jesus to be the Son of God and the Lamb of a God who takes away the sins of the world.

Jesus is baptized by John, and identified as the one upon whom the Spirit of God descended as a dove. This is just that simple. This Jesus is the One who God foretold John about. He is the Son of God. For us it reminds us to read the Old Testament and look to find what else Jesus fulfills. Search the scriptures and find out more about this Lamb of God who has died for our sins. Some times the text does not need a lot more said. Sometimes it can be beyond our comprehension. But God continues to point us to his Son, who died for the forgiveness of your sins.
