Christmas Day (Ps) December 25th

Psalm 46:1-11
1 God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
3 thought its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the most High.
5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
God will help her when morning dawns.
6 The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
7 The LORD of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come, behold the works of the LORD,
how he has brought desolations on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the chariots with fire.
10 "Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!"
11 The LORD of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

The LORD is my shelter and strength. He is my help in troubled times. He is the one who comes to give me comfort in my time of need. It is God my Savior who is always present with me. He is the one who defends me from all wickedness. He is the one who protects me even from myself.

The Psalmist talks about Kingdoms tottering and nations raging. He talks about wars and great struggles upon the earth. He even talks about natural destruction. The Mountains crashing into the sea. The oceans foaming and consumed by large waves. You can look around and see the rage of an ocean in Tsunami and Hurricanes. You can see mountains crumbling by Volcanoes and Earthquakes. All of these things are raging and waring on account of Creations Fall. They happen because you are a sinner.

God is our shelter. God is our Fortress and strength. God is the one who will protect his people from eternal damnation. Though Christians may die and face these same trials. We face them with HOPE. The Hope we find in a Child that was born. The Comfort we find in a Spirit who speaks from within you. God is with you. Jesus Christ the Immanuel has been born to Save you. He died on the cross for the Forgiveness of all your Sins.
