Sunday of Creation (CL)

Genesis 2:18-25

¹⁸ Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” ¹⁹ Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. ²⁰ The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. ²¹ So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. ²² And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. ²³ Then the man said,

“This at last is bone of my bones

and flesh of my flesh;

she shall be called Woman,

because she was taken out of Man.”

²⁴ Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. ²⁵ And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

It is not good for any of us to be alone.  But more and more sexual immorality in this world can lead to more and more people left alone.  People left alone because of divorce.  Others left alone because they don't want to play the game.  Some bounce from partner to partner but still find themselves alone.  Everyone is searching for someone, but if they are searching they have never really found.

God is searching for a partner, a helper, who fits with Adam or the Man.  He searches through all that he has already created.  Adam names everything but nothing is found for him to have a proper relationship with.  Match.com or whatever could not find the man a match.  God goes to his second resort.  God creates flesh of his flesh and bone of his bone. He creates woman, the proper help mate for Adam.

This is why people are not meant to be alone.  They need their helper.  They need relationships and they need spouses for life.  God designed us this way, he designed Adam to need Eve.  He also designed Eve for Adam.

Likewise, God designed his Son for all humanity.  He even in his instruction to Adam he designed a way out.  Blood would be used to atone for the sins of he world.  Death would pay the price for life.  Jesus has taken that death upon himself, as he died on he cross for the forgiveness of the sins of the world.

Humanity needed its helper and Jesus became flesh of our flesh and bone of our bone to become our Savior.
