The Sunday of the Transfiguration (NTA)

2 Peter 1:16-21
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. 19 And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

It is just as simple as saying Scripture interprets Scripture. In the resent down falls of most of Christendom, it is because they have lost sight of this simple passage. St Peter uses the illustration of their being eye witness to the full glory of God on the Mount of Transfiguration, to show that it is not about St Peter, St Paul, or Moses, but God's Holy Word.

God's Word states clearly that the Body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ is truly present in the Lord's Supper. The Words of Institution state it very clearly. Likewise, St Paul, St Peter, and Jesus words strong state the evils of sexual immorality. Leviticus, Romans, and every list of deeds of darkness include homosexuality as an abomination. Yet, many accept, tolerate, and even glorify the open practice. These are just a few ways in which we allow Man's will to trump the Will of God, and what he has stated in the Word of God.

This clear abandonment of the Word of God, should cause us all to repent. It is our responsibility to repent of our sins. We need to remember that we are sinners and our personal desires way be set against the Will of God. Christ came to die for the forgiveness of sins. This is just as much true as everything else in scripture. Christ has died and rose again for your salvation. He has claimed you to be his very own. All of this is not our will or any man's will, but it is God's will to save you.
