Luke
24:36-53
36 As they
were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to
them, “Peace to you!” 37 But
they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit. 38 And he said to
them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 See my hands
and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have
flesh and bones as you see that I have.” 40 And
when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. 41 And while they
still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them, “Have you
anything here to eat?” 42 They
gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and
he took it and ate before them.
44 Then he
said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with
you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and
the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then
he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and
said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the
third day rise from the dead, 47 and
that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all
nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You
are witnesses of these things. 49 And
behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city
until you are clothed with power from on high.”
50 Then he
led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. 51 While he
blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. 52 And they
worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 and
were continually in the temple blessing God.
Some of my favorite texts in scripture are the ones where Jesus opens people's minds. I have been told to have an open mind about things. If they mean that Jesus is going to open my mind, then I am on board. But if the world is going to open my mind, then I have strong objections.
Jesus is opening people's minds to the scriptures. The scriptures say that a man is the head of the household. The scriptures say that Homosexuality is an abomination. The scriptures say that adultery and pre-marital sex is wrong. Scripture says your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. So keep an open mind to what scripture says.
Because it is scripture that talks about forgiveness. Jesus opens their minds saying, "Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things." You have been forgiven in Christ Jesus. Repent of your sins, and mistakes. The price has been paid in full for your crime, before God. You are Forgiven. (This does not change what you did from being wrong.)

The Second Article: Redemption
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was
conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He
rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of
God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
What does this mean?
I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the
Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord.
Who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned person, purchased and won me from all
sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but
with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death, that I
may be His own and live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting
righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, just as He is risen from the dead, lives
and reigns to all eternity. This is most certainly true.
Almighty God, as Your only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus
Christ, ascended into the heavens, so may we also ascend in heart and mind and
continually dwell there with Him, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen.
