Psalm
121:1-8
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help
come?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not
slumber.
4 Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor
sleep.
5 The Lord
is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade on your right hand.
6 The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord
will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
8 The Lord
will keep
your going out and your
coming in
from this time forth and
forevermore.
Fourth
What does such baptizing with water indicate?
It indicates that the Old Adam in us should by daily
contrition and repentance be drowned and die with all sins and evil desires,
and that a new man should daily emerge and arise to live before God in
righteousness and purity forever.
Where is this written?
St. Paul writes in Romans chapter six: "We were
therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as
Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may
live a new life" (Romans 6:4).
O God, through the humiliation of Your Son You raised up
the fallen world. Grant to Your faithful
people, rescued from the peril of everlasting death, perpetual gladness and
eternal joys; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and
the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
