11 See with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. 12 It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh who would force you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. 13 For even those who are circumcised do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. 14 But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. 15 For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. 16 And as for all who walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.
17 From now on let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.
18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers. Amen.
What are the marks of Jesus? This text has a few little things that could lead some one in various directions. The conclusion St Paul is reminding the Galatians of where there salvation lies. Does your hope come from a happy life? Does your salvation come from the instruction of the Law? Does your redemption come from Christ's suffering?
St Paul tells us we may be persecuted on account of the cross of Christ. Christ was delivered to a cross and crucified for the sins of the world. Christ told his disciples to take up their cross and follow him. Those people who trust in Christ for their Salvation and say that he is the only way of Salvation, will not find peace in this world. But they have received peace by the new creation.
St Paul even adds that he has been crucified to the world. All who believe and have been baptized have been crucified with Christ Jesus. We have died and received new life. Christ is the first fruits of the new creation, but we with Christ are also a part of that new creation through this one true faith.
Our redemption comes from the cross of Christ. Our salvation from our savior Jesus. Our happy life and hope are in the resurrection of the body and the new creation.
