Proper 28 (Ps) November 18th

Psalm 15:1-5

O Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent?
Who shall dwell on your holy hill?
He who walks blamelessly and does what is right
and speaks truth in his heart;
who does not slander with his tongue
and does no evil to his neighbor,
nor takes up a reproach against his friend;
in whose eyes a vile person is despised,
but who honors those who fear the Lord;
who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
who does not put out his money at interest
and does not take a bribe against the innocent.
He who does these things shall never be moved.

Who can dwell in the house of the Lord?  Who could walk with the Lord?  Well as I understand it only someone who does good and leads a Holy Life.  Those who speak the truth in all things are able to walk with the Lord.  The one who does not evil against his neighbor could dwell in the house of the Lord.

The Psalmist gives us a pretty good list of requirements, but it is simple.  Be Holy as the Lord our God is holy.  This is a list of what Holy people do.  Are you a Holy person?  Most of us think we are Holy because we are nice people.  Sometimes it is just about taking care of our neighbor every once and a while.  But you need to make sure no falsehood touches your lips.  You need to make sure no reproach enters your neighbor.

Luckily, you are holy as the Lord our God is holy.  The command is made to remind us, we are sinful and unclean.  But Jesus Christ has died for the forgiveness of all your sins.  Christ has made you Holy as the Lord your God is Holy.  You may not do anything on this list, but you are still holy.

Who can dwell in the house of the Lord?  Those who have been redeemed by Christ crucified.  Who could walk with the Lord?  Those redeemed in the blood of Christ Jesus our Lord.
