The Second Sunday after Epiphany (NT)

Romans 12:1-8
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

I wonder how highly I ought to think of myself?  God has given us grace to have faith.  God has even set us free from our bondage to sin.  God has made each of us members of His Son, Jesus Christ.  God has even offered us the gift to worship and praise His holy Name.  Thus, how highly ought I to think of myself?

If I take my sober mind and look at these things which have been given to me, I do not find much in which to boast.  It appears God has been doing all the work.  As one wise person once said, "The only thing I can offer to my salvation is my sinful deeds."  If this is the case than, we all have a lot to offer to our salvation.  Most of us have an infinite number of sins to offer to our Salvation.

Now I would like to quote another wise man.  He said, "Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me."  I will certainly think of myself with regards to my weaknesses.  Thus, I will boast in Jesus Christ my Savior.  It is to the grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ we owe our salvation.  Have mercy on us Jesus Christ.
