Mark 1:12-13
12 The
Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. 13 And
he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with
the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him.
The Spirit of the Most High takes Jesus after his
Baptism and casts him out into the wilderness.
It is interesting the many connections someone can make.
The Lord led his people through the Red Sea, and
into the Wilderness. They struggled,
grumbled, and learned as they traveled in the wilderness for 40 years. They eventually were brought to the promised
Land, where there was milk and honey.
After Christ’s death and resurrection the Church of
God spent many years baptizing and proclaiming the forgiveness of sins. But as the Church remained faithful, the
enemies of the Church grew more threatening.
The Roman Empire cast, or threw, Christians into arenas to strive
against animals and eventually be slaughtered.
But here are the wild beasts striving against Jesus or are the ministering
to Jesus?
These are just two ways to see how Jesus suffers,
and is tempted in every way that we suffer, and are tempted to give up our
faith. Remain steadfast. God will remain with you, in his Word and
Sacrament.
