The Seventh Sunday of Easter (Ps) May 12th

Psalm 108:1-13
My heart is steadfast, O God!
I will sing and make melody with all my being!
Awake, O harp and lyre!
I will awake the dawn!
I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.
For your steadfast love is great above the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
Let your glory be over all the earth!
That your beloved ones may be delivered,
give salvation by your right hand and answer me!
God has promised in his holiness:
“With exultation I will divide up Shechem
and portion out the Valley of Succoth.
Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine;
Ephraim is my helmet,
Judah my scepter.
Moab is my washbasin;
upon Edom I cast my shoe;
over Philistia I shout in triumph.”
10 Who will bring me to the fortified city?
Who will lead me to Edom?
11 Have you not rejected us, O God?
You do not go out, O God, with our armies.
12 Oh grant us help against the foe,
for vain is the salvation of man!
13 With God we shall do valiantly;
it is he who will tread down our foes.

This Psalm starts off pretty strong. May God keep our hearts steadfast in the true faith. God is our strength and salvation. God is the one who delivers his people. But then there are all these questions. David claims all these lands and even says, "You do not go out, O God, with our armies." God has delivered his people in the past, but will he remain faithful and help us against our foes.

There are many times in our own life when we look at all the things we have accomplished. I found it interesting on Facebook there was a post: What if you woke up this morning with only the things you thanked God for the previous Day? My first thought was crap, I should be more thankful. Then I realized I thanked God for everything he has created and brought into my life (not listing them). But that means I would get a lot more stuff.

The point is simply to remember that God is your salvation. God is the one who marches with your armies in Victory. The LORD of Sabaoth is the one who has claimed victory over the Grave. He has destroyed the power of Death. He is the one he keeps us safe and strong.

Maybe we can continue to talk to other people about this God. Maybe we can remind each other that nothing we have is really ours, but it belongs to God. He Loves you and offers you all these things out of Fatherly divine goodness and mercy.
