Proper 15 (Ps) August 18th

Psalm 63:1-11
O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding your power and glory.
Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.
So I will bless you as long as I live;
in your name I will lift up my hands.
My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food,
and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips,
when I remember you upon my bed,
and meditate on you in the watches of the night;
for you have been my help,
and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.
My soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds me.
But those who seek to destroy my life
shall go down into the depths of the earth;
10 they shall be given over to the power of the sword;
they shall be a portion for jackals.
11 But the king shall rejoice in God;
all who swear by him shall exult,
for the mouths of liars will be stopped.

God, our God, is our Holy Bridegroom. It is his steadfast love and faithfulness that continues to come to us. Jesus Christ is our Holy Groom, who has made a perfect sacrifice for the forgiveness of your sins.  His Love will shelter us and continue to share with us the gifts we need.

Like a Holy Bride, we should cling to our God. We should be joined with our God. He is our life and our salvation. Jesus Christ still treats us like his Holy Bride, even as we run out on him. Jesus Christ lays down his life for you. He cleanses you from all your sins. He even clothes us with his righteousness.

Let Us Pray
Lord God, heavenly Father, send forth Your Son to lead home His bride, the Church that with all the company of the redeemed we may finally enter into His eternal wedding feast; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
