Matthew 15:32-39
32 Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion on the crowd because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. And I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.” 33 And the disciples said to him, “Where are we to get enough bread in such a desolate place to feed so great a crowd?” 34 And Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven, and a few small fish.” 35 And directing the crowd to sit down on the ground, 36 he took the seven loaves and the fish, and having given thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 37 And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces left over. 38 Those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children. 39 And after sending away the crowds, he got into the boat and went to the region of Magadan.

Many of us often ask the question "What is for dinner?" When you put on big party you may even ask, "How much Food should we make?" For a lot of Churches this comes at the time of Funerals, when you do not know how many people will show up. You have a dinner to put on and what do you make and how much do you make. But back in the Garden of Eden Adam was given every tree of the garden to eat from except one.
Jesus at the Feeding of the 4,000 takes seven loaves and one fish to feed them all. We should be reminded that God is the one who has created everything. God is the one who provides my Daily Bread. Even after the feeding is over, the disciples have seven baskets of left overs. God has provided us with so much that we have leftovers.
God does not just have compassion on our stomachs but also has compassion on those banished from the Garden. He has had compassion on us to provide salvation in his Son Jesus Christ. In his death and resurrection we find a cup of blessings that also overflows with grace and mercy. We give thanks for the leftovers of bread, but also the left overs of Forgiveness.
We concern ourselves with bread and water and even food of flesh. But we should trust in God. We should not be over weight or over fed because God provides all we need. God has provided plenty. So we should trust in God and his creation of all flesh. But since we are weak and can not do these things, God sent his Holy Spirit to call us to faith. God sent his Son to provide us with more Forgiveness than we will ever need.
