1 The Lord says to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand,
until I make your enemies your footstool.”
2 The Lord sends forth from Zion
your mighty scepter.
Rule in the midst of your enemies!
3 Your people will offer themselves freely
on the day of your power,
in holy garments;
from the womb of the morning,
the dew of your youth will be yours.
4 The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind,
“You are a priest forever
after the order of Melchizedek.”
5 The Lord is at your right hand;
he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath.
6 He will execute judgment among the nations,
filling them with corpses;
he will shatter chiefs
over the wide earth.
7 He will drink from the brook by the way;
therefore he will lift up his head.
David writes a Psalm of praise, or a psalm of prophecy. The Lord has sat down beside King David and given him rest from his enemies on all sides. But the Lord is still to shatter the kings of the earth and fill the nations with corpses. Here is the phrase I would like to look at, "You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek."
This statement can not be said of David, because David is a King and not a Priest. But the Lord will not change his mind. The Lord has declared through the Mouth of David, that David's Lord will sit at the right hand of the LORD his God. David's Lord will be like Melchizedek a King and a Priest of God. Who is this Lord? Jesus Christ is Prophet, Priest, and King.
Jesus will come to execute judgment among the nations. Jesus has taken his seat at the right hand of God the Father. Jesus has been given the scepter of Judah. He has been given the priesthood of Melchizedek. He will shatter the chiefs of the world. Jesus will come as Judge and fill the nations with corpses. Jesus will proclaim judgment upon his Enemies.
The greatest Enemy all of us face is Death. Jesus Christ has conquered death through his sacrifice on the cross. He has won the victory for each of us. He has claimed the inheritance of everlasting life for you. This is the Lord Jesus Christ who has taken his seat at the right hand of my LORD God and he is my Lord and Savior.
