Genesis
1:1-5
In the
beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and
void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was
hovering over the face of the waters.
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was
good. And God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and
the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the
first day.
The LORD
God of Heaven and Earth created all these things. Many people will no doubt
talk about God speaking them into existence. Others will talk about God molding
every atom with his very fingers. But here there is nothing simpler than to
just say God did it.
Verse 1
does not provide explanation, but just simply say God created it. Many people
would like to tell the tale of atoms, protons, electrons, quarks, and various
particles exploding together. Some might even venture to tell tales about
Vedas, or Titans. There are many times when the simplest explanation is most
likely. God created everything, and there is nothing that exists that God has
not made.
God’s creation has fallen into formless void sin. God’s creation has been corrupted by the sinfulness of Man. Man’s sin brought death into this glorious and perfect
creation. God sends his Light and His Spirit into the World. The Spirit calls
us to the waters of baptism. Those baptismal waters wash our sins away in the
blood of the Light of the World. The Light shines in all whom God has claimed
to be his own.
God
created you. You are corrupted by sin. God redeems you. God makes you his very
own.
