Sunday of Joseph (NTA)

Romans 12:14-21
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord. 20 To the contrary, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head. 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

St Paul reminds us that Vengeance belongs to God. It is God who forgives sins. It is God who sends people a savior. It is even God who condemns the wicked one. It is our place to live in harmony, and forgive one another.

It is easy for us to allow evil to reign in our lives. It is easy for us to not talk about all the disturbances within our work place. Whether it is the backbiting in the office, or the mysteriously sexual advertisements. Evil is all around us and most people say if we are going to live in harmony with this world we need to give in. We need to be accepting of these evil actions and thoughts.

God has not called you to condemn the world. God didnt even send his son to condemn the world. He sent his son to save the world. Jesus was sent to be persecuted. He was sent to be slaughtered. Jesus came to die for sinners. The Lord will repay all people. He has taken vengeance against Evil. Jesus will return to restore his creation to perfection. He will remove all evil from creation.
