Proper 10 (Ps) July 14th

Psalm 9:1-10
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;
I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.
I will be glad and exult in you;
I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
When my enemies turn back,
they stumble and perish before your presence.
For you have maintained my just cause;
you have sat on the throne, giving righteous judgment.
You have rebuked the nations; you have made the wicked perish;
you have blotted out their name forever and ever.
The enemy came to an end in everlasting ruins;
their cities you rooted out;
the very memory of them has perished.
But the Lord sits enthroned forever;
he has established his throne for justice,
and he judges the world with righteousness;
he judges the peoples with uprightness.
The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
10 And those who know your name put their trust in you,
for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.

 The LORD God does sit enthroned over all of creation. The Lord our God has sat upon his throne. He is a just God. He judges with righteousness. He judges you whether you are perfect and holy as he is holy. He determines very easily that you are not. He condemns you with all the wicked people of the earth. You are just like the enemy who will be in everlasting ruins.

You who have been condemned cry for mercy. You who are lost and face punishment should repent of your sins. Turn from your wicked ways. Call upon the name of the Lord so that you might be saved. Recall the wonderful deeds God has done. Recall how he delivered his people from the land of Egypt. Recall how he delivered his people from the land of Babylon.

God has recalled for you the great mystery of his Son Jesus Christ. Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. He will come to raise you from the dead to life. He will come to judge the living and the dead. He died to give you forgiveness. He lives to give you life. He will come so that you may live with him forever.

Let us pray.
Blessed Lord, since You have caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning, grant that we may so hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them that we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
