Proper 11 (Ps) July 21st

Psalm 6:1-10
O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger,
nor discipline me in your wrath.
Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing;
heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled.
My soul also is greatly troubled.
But you, O Lord—how long?
Turn, O Lord, deliver my life;
save me for the sake of your steadfast love.
For in death there is no remembrance of you;
in Sheol who will give you praise?
I am weary with my moaning;
every night I flood my bed with tears;
I drench my couch with my weeping.
My eye wastes away because of grief;
it grows weak because of all my foes.
Depart from me, all you workers of evil,
for the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping.
The Lord has heard my plea;
the Lord accepts my prayer.
10 All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled;
they shall turn back and be put to shame in a moment.

David wants to avoid the Wrath of God. He wants to avoid the discipline of God. He can not handle the pain and the suffering any longer. He can not avoid but looking at his sinfulness and disgrace. He sees himself as a troubled individual. So He turns to the Lord.

The LORD God continues to show his Love for his People. His steadfast Love and faithfulness will endure forever. He will put away all the suffering and pain. He will raise us up from this bed of tears. He will strengthen us in the true faith.

God is a God of Wrath. God is a God of Mercy. Jesus Christ will come to judge the living and the dead. This means he will bring wrath upon sinful creatures. Jesus Christ has also taken that wrath upon himself on the cross. Jesus came to save his people and deliver them into eternal life.

Let us Pray
O God, so rule and govern our hearts and minds by Your Holy Spirit that, ever mindful of Your final judgment, we may be stirred up to holiness of living here and dwell with You in perfect joy hereafter; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. (A69)
