Proper 23 (NTA)

1 John 4:1-6
1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. 4 Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

"Test the spirits to see whether they are from God." Jesus Christ warned his disciples about false prophets. Jesus Christ warned the people of Jerusalem about their Leaders. These both are very applicable to the Church Today. This is a text were you are the beloved of God.

God has loved you so much. He has given you his Gifts. God calls you Beloved because you are his dear Children and claimed at a high price. But even though you are his beloved there are those among you who will lead you astray. The AntiChrist comes from within the Church. The False Prophets call themselves Christians. It is easy for us to think there are no false teachers in the Church. (But look around!)

Jesus Christ is True God and True Man. Jesus Christ is the Son of the Father. Jesus Christ was from the Beginning. Jesus Christ suffered under Pontius Pilate and died on a Cross. Jesus Christ was bodily raised from the Dead. The Father Created all things through his Son Jesus Christ in six days and continues to Work Life and Salvation by means of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit creates faith in you. It is by grace through faith that you have been saved. Beloved in the LORD test the leaders of your Church.
