1 Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
Stand up and Listen to the word of the LORD. Stand and Hear what the Psalmist writes. Do not sit in the seat of scoffers or sinners. Do not take delight in the pleasures of the flesh. Listen to the truth which God has revealed to his people. Stand and Listen to the truth of the Gospel, or the Word of the Lord.
Where does your counsel come from? Who do you listen to? How do you know what someone tells you is true and righteous? Some people tell us we need to doubt everything. We need to make sure everything is examined thoroughly. What about the tool you use to examine it? If I am to sit down and examine a book as to what is right and wrong, how do I know that I am right and wrong?
Thus, we do not use ourselves as a counselor. We turn to the LORD God to tell us what is right and true. The LORD God teaches us through his words of Instruction. Therefore, the Psalmist delights in the Law of the Lord. Not just the Law in the sense of a command or rule, but also instruction and teaching of How God treats his people.
Delight in the Word of the LORD and meditate on his word day and night. Listen to His Holy Instruction. Listen to God's command. Listen even further to the Love of God which does surpass all understanding. He has planted you beside a stream of rich water. He gives to you nourishment through the Word of God. In His Word we are given life and salvation.
God's Word is truth and the truth will set you free. Meditate on His truth day and night and you will know that God has redeemed you from your wickedness. God has provided his people with salvation and instruction.
