1 Why do the nations conspire
and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth take their stand
and the rulers gather together
against the Lord
and against his Anointed One.
3 “Let us break their chains,” they say,
“and throw off their fetters.”
4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord scoffs at them.
5 Then he rebukes them in his anger
and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
6 “I have installed my King
on Zion, my holy hill.”
7 I will proclaim the decree of the Lord:
He said to me, “You are my Son;
today I have become your Father.
8 Ask of me,
and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You will rule them with an iron scepter;
you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”
10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;
be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear
and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry
and you be destroyed in your way,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
Someone once said, "If you want to make God Laugh, all you have to do is tell him your plans." The world plots in vain against God and his anointed one. They plot and make plans and this makes the LORD himself laugh. The Kings of the Earth stand with strength in their own arms. But (pardon the phrase) God has more strength in his pinkie finger than all the kings of the earth.
God is all His strength and might has raised up Kings of the Earth. Throughout the History of the Nation of Israel God has raised up nation after nation to charge against them. He has used these nations to judge other nations. He has even judged those nations by strengthening his own people to stand and fight. But still all these Kings plot after their own power and their own strength.
None of the Kings then nor the Rulers today think of the Power God has to Kill and make alive. God has shown his power even as Tyrants and Dictators have flourished to tear down and torture the wicked of this world. Wars have been fought to put a balance to these cruel powers yet more arise and sometimes even the Victors of those Great Wars can become the Wicked to replace those who were previously defeated.
But in all these things God still works his hand to save and redeem his people. No, matter whether you live oppressed by a dictator or in the appearance of freedom, The Anointed one of God still does is work. Jesus Christ is still the Son of God. Jesus Christ's word still is proclaimed to nations. The Holy Spirit still continues to call, gather, and enlighten people to follow the Lord Jesus Christ and become part of His Church.
The Lord continues to laugh at all of us, even as we continue to make plans for our own lives. But even though he laughs at our plans, this does not stop his plans from going forth. He is still continuing to subject all His enemies under the feet of Jesus Christ our Savior. Who has died so that we might live.
