The Fifth Sunday of Easter (GA)

Mark 3:7-12
Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great crowd followed, from Galilee and Judea and Jerusalem and Idumea and from beyond the Jordan and from around Tyre and Sidon. When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him. And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they crush him, 10 for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed around him to touch him. 11 And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” 12 And he strictly ordered them not to make him known.

Jesus Christ travels around Galilee and Judea. He travels north and south. He travels east and west. Not really all that far, because he does not have motorized vehicles. But he travels around healing people, and preaching the good news. He preaches the coming of the Kingdom of God.

I have always wondered if anyone went on tour and did not have a packed house. There are many pop stars and singers who travel from place to place. They perform for packed houses. Most of these people are liked by a significant number of people and some travel great distances to get to these concerts or performances. But has anyone traveled around from town to town and been rejected by everyone he approached.

Jesus, who will be rejected by all his followers and crucified, is now playing packed houses. He has people pressing in so close around him. There is no room for people to get any closer. The text even says, "lest they crush him." Remember crowd control is always very important.

Jesus Christ still comes to heal. He brings people not popularity or something that should be really appealing. But he brings them a transformation. He brings them healing. Jesus Christ died for the forgiveness of your sins. He rose from the dead to put creation back to the way it should be. As he travels around the Land of Israel he puts creation back to the way it should be. He even can make you the way you are supposed to be.

Jesus Christ comes to make you holy and perfect. He comes to heal you. He comes to remove your evil spirit. He comes to remove the guy who recognizes the son of God, and replaces him with the one who believes and is cleansed by the son of God.
